Episode 7: The Future of Binge Watching
While I am not a fortune teller, I can say with a reasonable degree of confidence that binge watching will be around for at least a while longer. It has become a major part of our culture and society and, while it may still be something that people feel ashamed about, it is becoming widely acceptable. While it may change shapes or forms, people will continue binge watching for a long time.
The Internet is changing the way that people think and interact. It is also changing the way that people view entertainment and culture. The entertainment industry has come a long way and followed many technological advances, from solely live performances to radio to television to the Internet. As technology continues to advance and change the way people see the world, entertainment will adapt with it. Twenty years ago, I'm sure very few people ever envisioned having so many options of TV shows and movies to watch, right at your fingertips, just by turning on a computer. It is, therefore, hard to tell where entertainment will go in the future. If people continue to look for an escape and continue to multitask to help their small attention spans, however, it is very likely that binge watching will follow wherever technology takes entertainment.
