About Me

Hi, I'm Katie and I'm going to attempt to tell you about myself without just listing off my resume.  I grew up in Michigan in a small town named Linden, which is somewhere in between Ann Arbor and Flint.  I actually grew up in a house on the property of a Girl Scout camp called Camp Linden where my dad is the camp ranger.  Growing up at camp was pretty cool, since my brother and I had a lot of space to run around and sometimes we even got to do camp activities (I liked going swimming and boating the best), but it was also a little lonely, since we didn't have any neighbors nearby.

I was a pretty typical kid growing up and I didn't do anything particularly noteworthy.  I was in student council and I tried a couple different sports but nothing ever stuck.  Then, in my junior year of high school, I discovered marching band.  I had never played an instrument, but a lot of my friends were in marching band and they told me that I should try color guard and I instantly fell in love with it.  I have now marched four seasons of marching band (2 in high school and 2 in college) and 4 seasons of winterguard.

In 2013 I graduated high school and that fall I began attending the University of Michigan, where I am currently finishing my sophomore year.  I joined the Michigan Marching Band in my freshman year and quickly found a great group of friends through the organization.  I have also been a part of the Michigan Winter Ensemble, the winterguard associated with U of M.  This past year I also joined Tau Beta Sigma, the National Honorary Band Sorority, which focuses on service and serving the band community.

In addition to minoring in writing, I have decided to major in Communication Studies (which I will be declaring at the end of this semester) and am also planning on minoring in digital studies.  My current dream job would be in the marketing department of a big company running their social media accounts, although this pretty much changes daily.

As far as writing goes, I've really enjoyed playing with the digital aspect of writing and looking at the different modes writing can take, which I hope shows through this portfolio.  I look forward to having more opportunities to play with multimodal writing in the future.
