Re-Purposing Jouney
Last semester (Fall 2014), I took a creative writing class. My favorite piece of writing to come out of that class was a story I wrote for an assignment entitled "Last Lap", which asked me to start at the climax of a story and tell the story from that moment. I decided to write about a character who joins the Michigan Marching Band and, as she is about to perform for the first time, she reflects on the events that got her to that moment. The following is this original story.
We were assigned to take something that we had already written and repurpose it- change the rhetorical situation and/or the argument somehow and create an entirely new piece based off the old. Since I loved writing this story so much, I decided that I wanted to repurpose it somehow. After thinking about it for a while, I chose to write a paper arguing that marching band is a sport, based off the athletic talk of the girl in the story.
